10.24.08 | She's a Brick House!
The latest and greatest is that I am currently in the process of buying a house. The worst part is waiting for answers and hoping the offer gets accepted. But I am keeping my mind busy by playin a lot and enjoying getting used to living in Milwaukee! Once I buy a house and get settled expect a small house warming party to take place! Maybe some live music, friends, and fun, (only a few strippers please.) Some exciting things in the works for the upcoming months. But until things get locked down stay tuned and up to date. A good way to do so is get on my mailing list. Hope all is well with you and yours!

10.04.08 | Busy and crazy
Hey cats,
It has been a long time since I have been able to update the site here and for that I am extremely sorry. Over the summer my life has been flipped up and down and all around. Watch for more news in my newsletter, not signed up on the email list!? WHY NOT!? Head over the the contact section and get me your info. More to come as time allows, and I promise it will be soon. Hope all is well with you and yours!

03.13.08 | Welcome Daylight Savings Time
Well it is just great having the extra daylight now. I am getting some cycling in as well as enjoying lighter jackets and not seeing snow plows. I recently posted a bunch of new gigs for the next couple months and would love to see you at any of them!

Work is going well and I continue to meet the most interesting people. Like today I had lunch with the Associate Principal trombonist of the Chicago Symphony, James Gilbertson.

If you have not heard of Marshall Gilkes I highly recommend checkin' him out. He has played with tons of the greats and his playing is amazing. I don't think I have met someone with such control over the trombone in its etirety! Buy his latest album and check out his website www.marshallgilkes.com He is a great person as well as musician. In fact I asked him a question about jazz trombone playing that usually professionals answer by saying, "listen and transcribe," but he actually answered the question in a way that I could understand/take to the woodshed, and wasn't just a way around the question. It was a pleasure meeting you Mr. Gilkes and I hope to meet again soon!

As always,
Keep Listening!

01.23.08 | Busy as all...
Well I gotta say I am pretty busy. I have not had a night off or day off in a long time. If I am not at work then I am in my car on the way to a gig, at a rehearsal, in the studio, or trying to keep my appartment clean. Funny thing is the hardest part of all that is keeping my appartment clean. My fiance Kristen and I have a great understanding that we can clean up after ourselves and not have to clean after each other. Yet she still ends up having to put away things that I leave out.
Anyways, another project I am working on is with Cold Sweat and our website. I have taken over the job of running the website. This is not an easy job especially seeing how I don't know how to use their admin. The admin for this website here is extremely easy to use. However using a C-Panel is not. You have to install all of these applications to edit everything on the site. If you want a forum you must choose a forum host and then install that and edit it from the forum host admin. We also have a myspace page that was recently started. CHECK IT OUT AND ADD US. The address is www.myspace.com/coldsweathorns
I have also been playing at a couple Edgewood College Mens/Womens basketball games. They are decent teams and it is a fun way to make a bit of money and watch basketball. It has also been cool to see some old friends and strangers on the gig.
Meanwhile I am turning into a snowman. It feels like we have had more snow so far this year than we have in the past 5 years or so. While we are all freezing up hear in Wisconsin, my parents are enjoying retirement out in Arizona until the conditions here are more like they are in Green Valley, AZ.
How about a little feedback? I would love to see some more familar faces at gigs. The reason being I enjoy any kind of feedback I can get about any group I am performing with. I have recently been laughed at for my mad dancing skills when performing with Cold Sweat and the Brew City Horns. The person doing the creative criticizing will remain nameless, but I still appreciate the fact that someone I know came to see me play and actually paid enough attention to be able to tell me something like I am the best damn dancer in the world... Or that I look uncomfortable because I am on the edge of the stairs to the stage about to fall off. (I almost did fall of of the stage at the Grain Exchange when playing a wedding reception a couple months ago, lesson learned)
Well I will continue to post my "BLOG" right hear so that you can get it straight from my mind to yours!

Stay in tune.

Mike

I have been doing many things from riding the cross bike, working full-time at Edwards Instruments, gigging, etc. I have recently joined 2 groups as a full time member. The first group is the Bones Band which is a Madison based group and the second is Cold Sweat and the Brew City Horns. Check out my updated schedule and see when you can come out to a show! As always I am still working on recording and the blogs should start soon especially now that I have all this free time (i mean well you know). I appreciate the support from everyone who says hello when they come out to a show and would love to see more familiar faces. Have a great thanksgiving and I will post again soon!

10.04.07 | Blogs
Howdy Cats,
So I am going to be starting a blog here on the site. The reason being is I have read some pretty killer blogs lately and think that if they can do it why can't I. I have been working slowly on the recording projects due to a new addiction to cyclocross. All of these will become topics in the blog area so watch for those to be appearing soon! Keep jammin'
